FAQs

At SoloPower Systems, we take pride in our proprietary manufacturing process and industry-leading products. We are knowledgeable and confident that our breakthrough solar solutions can meet your specific needs. If you have additional questions that are not covered here, we welcome the opportunity to tell you more about us.

Q: WHAT IS SOLOPOWER TECHNOLOGY?

SoloPower technology is a laboratory-proven, field-tested solar solution produced utilizing a proprietary process for producing Copper Indium Gallium di Selenide (CIGS) flexible, thin-film photovoltaic solar cells and panels that are specifically designed for applications requiring ultra-lightweight.

Q: WHAT IS THE GOAL OF SOLOPOWER’S TECHNOLOGY?

SoloPower technology produces advanced, highly efficient solar modules aimed at enabling grid parity between solar energy and traditional energy sources. Solopower™ thin-film photovoltaic devices are built on flexible substrates that seamlessly and aesthetically integrate into a growing range of non-traditional commercial applications such as low load-bearing residential and commercial rooftops. Ultimately, SoloPower™ technology will scale solar integration for vehicles, lighting, off-grid, personal and industrial applications – to seamlessly provide low-cost power while reducing reliance on carbon fuels.

Q: WHO ARE OUR CUSTOMERS?

We are working with numerous partners to integrate our CIGS thin-film solar products in roof-top, automotive, transportation, off-grid and military applications to name a few. Our customers typically include leading Developers, Independent Power Producers, Integrators, Real Estate Investment Trusts, Engineering, Procurement and Construction companies, Original Equipment Manufacturers, and Product Distributors. In addition to installations in the United States, SoloPower™ technology serves customers around the world, including Germany, Spain, Italy, France, India, Japan, MENA and Australia.

Q: WHO ARE SOLOPOWER SYSTEMS’ STAKEHOLDERS?

Investors in SoloPower™ technology are top-tier, global private equity and investment firms, including Hudson Clean Energy Partners. Furthermore, SoloPower technology benefits from a variety of tax-based incentives from the State of Oregon.

Q: WHAT IS CIGS?

Among many uses, CIGS is best known as an alternate solar cell material in thin -film solar cells. In this role, CIGS has the advantages of being able to be deposited on flexible substrate materials, producing highly flexible, lightweight solar panels. Improvements in efficiency have made CIGS a leader among alternative cell materials.

Importantly, because it’s proving to be a cost-effective solar solution, CIGS is increasingly utilized for a wide variety of applications. SoloPower CIGS technology is electrochemically deposited on a flexible stainless steel substrate — our easily configured, thin-film solar cells can then be integrated into building construction materials, vehicles, off-grid applications and consumer electronics.

Q: WHAT IS THE EFFICIENCY OF SOLOPOWER TECHNOLOGY?

CIGS cells have achieved the highest efficiency (~20%) among thin film materials and the company is engaged in translating high efficiencies achieved in the lab into its commercial scale manufacturing process. Today, SoloPower products have median conversion efficiencies in the range of 11% to 13%.

Q: WHAT CERTIFICATIONS DOES SOLOPOWER TECHNOLOGY HOLD?

SoloPower modules are built to meet or exceed UL 1703 and IEC 61646 and 61730 standards.

Q: WHAT SETS SOLOPOWER SYSTEMS APART FROM OTHER CIGS DEVELOPERS?

SoloPower Systems is the only CIGS manufacturing company that uses electrochemical deposition for each of the CIGS layers. Based on over 100 years of reliable industrial electroplating technology, our proven and proprietary process provides high throughput, consistent control, high yield, high material utilization and low capital equipment costs.
